Entel Marathon of Santiago wants the neighbors to take the city
Today was the first “Encounter with the city” organized by the Entel Marathon of Santiago, which aims to expand the event beyond the runners of the 10K, 21K or 42K on next April 8, and invite to participate institutions and all the neighbors of the eight districts that the course crosses becaming the largest sports party in Chile.
In partnership with Government Laboratory of the Government of Chile, the goal is to measure the impact of the event in the city and to encourage pedestrians enjoying their streets without cars.
The leaders of urban groups such as Ciudad Emergente, Fundación Basura, Fundación Fortaleza, CicloRecreoVía, Chilean Carabineros authorities, firefighters and representatives of the eight municipalities that the eMDS course crosses, discussed themes and ideas to integrate the city as the protagonist of the event, which expects to receive 30 thousand runners from Chile and abroad.
One of the already confirmed activities for the day of the event, will be the urban malones in the area of the Central Market and National Stadium led by Ciudad Emergente, “which are a recreational neighborhood activity, where people gather in the streets around a table, to take breakfast and interact, agreements are reached for the benefit of the community and quality of life,” explained Kurt Steffens, speaker of “Ciudad Emergente”.
Francisca Aguirre, Executive Director of the Entel Marathon of Santiago, said that “we are very happy about how urban groups become part of the Entel Marathon of Santiago. Many people think that if they don´t run, they are out of the event and that is not the case. On next April 8, we will have other activities around the 3 circuits, so we invite neighbors to learn about the streets closing, to leave the car at home and go out to share with family. The invitation is to take advantage of the opportunity to enjoy the public space available for healthy living and sports”
Cristian Valenzuela, Paralympic Gold Medal Athlete and President of Fortaleza Foundation, thanked the organization and commented that “we are always looking to strengthen the Paralympic sport, show runners with disabilities and say here we are. There is little diffusion of our sports careers and the Entel Marathon of Santiago has always been present. It is an important platform to show and motivate others to participate too”.
